200 mln yuan for protecting Tibet's grassland

An activity on environmental projection in Tibet on Oct.15 started in Lhasa, capital of Tibet, as a part of the 2009 Environmental Protection Work in China. Environmental protection work will be launched in Xigaze, Lhoka, Nyingchi and Lhasa, publicizing banning on "white pollution", inspecting environment in downtown, major traffic tracks, scenic spots and regulating the disposal of domestic garbage. It is hope that the activity will find out the problems as well as disadvantage in environmental protection, further publicize the ban on use of plastic bags, said Tupdan Tsewang, deputy director of the standing committee of the People's Congress of Tibet, at the opening ceremony. Since 2003, five activities of this kind were launched in Tibet, boosting the protection of grassland, forest resources, wild animals and safe drinking water and the management of mineral resources.
