Development 6.4 Bln Yuan Earmarked for Key Tibet Projects [WTN-L World Tibet Network News. Published by The Canada Tibet Committee. Issue ID: 05/02/19; February 19, 2005.] (Xinhua is the official press agency of the Peoplešs Republic of China) Beijing Feb.18 (XINHUA)-- The Chinese central government will earmark 6.4 billion yuan, or about 770 million U.S. dollars to support 24 key projects in the Tibetan Autonomous Region. The projects include a grassland conservation program, power grid expansion, construction of roads and water projects in grassland and pasturing areas, and the establishment of more primary and secondary schools. At present, water and electricity are in short supply for more than four hundred thousand people in the region.
