China Tibet Information Center In 2005, the total highway mileage in Tibet will reach 43 thousand, according to Tibet Communication Department. In 2005, there will be 5120 million yuan investment on the highway construction to increase 2000 kilometers new highway. Since 1990s, the investment on Tibetan highway contraction has amounted to 10 trillion yuan. At the end of 2003, the total mileage of Tibetan highways reached 41302 kilometers, with more than 3000 kilometers asphalt road. 25 out of 73 counties have asphalt roads. In fact without the highway, it would be unimaginable to transport large equipment and spare parts to the construction site of the railway line. The rapidly developed highway in Tibet will of course give a hand to the development of Tibetan economy.
