Development China to Restructure Golmud-Lhasa Oil Pipeline [WTN-L World Tibet Network News. Published by The Canada Tibet Committee. Issue ID: 02/07/17; July 17, 2002.] XINING, July 17 - China is reconstructing an oil pipeline running from Golmud in Qinghai Province, to Lhasa, capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region. The State Development Planning Commission has earmarked funds to the 1,076-kilometer pipeline, which requires a sum of 326 million yuan (US$41 million). The project is scheduled for completion by 2004. The difficult geological conditions along the Golmud-Lhasa oil pipeline have accelerated the ageing of the pipeline. After nearly 30 years of operation, part of the pipeline has got rusted or deformed. The oil pipeline has been badly overused for many years and needs reconstructing.
