American Company To Open Luxury Hotel In Lhasa
(Xinhua) Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, the New York-based hospitality
corporation which owns the Sheraton brand, is to launch its first luxury hotel
in the TAR with the opening of the St. Regis Resort Lhasa in January 2010. The
new-build hotel will be located on the eastern side of the Tibetan capital close
to the Potala Palace, which will be visible from the hotel's guest rooms and
lobby. The Lhasa Yungao International Hotel Company started construction on the
175-room hotel on April 27. According to a report by Xinhua, room prices are
likely to be around US$400 per night.
