A familiar scene in traversing Tibet is the product of Chinese road building. The mountainside has been left totally bare, ripe for erosion and lansdslides. [Stone Routes]
Steady streams of trucks have been observed carrying timber back to China. One observer counted 50 trucks in one hour (Kham). [John Ackerly]
